A 23 YEAR-OLD man was sentenced to eight years imprisonment for firearms offences on Friday 3 September after a successful investigation by police in Islington.

Ryan Agostini, of Calshot Street, N1, was sentenced at Blackfriars Crown Court shortly after he had been found guilty of possession of a shotgun and ammunition.

In the early hours of Friday 9 October 2024 officers searched Agostini's home and found the firearm and ammunition.

Agostini was not in the flat at the time and he was arrested the following week when he handed himself in to Islington Police station on 16 October 2009.

He appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court on 17 October charged with the firearms offences where he pleaded not guilty. He later changed his plea and admitted to the charges on 7 January 2010.

On Friday, the court heard that officers obtained the search warrant after they found an internet video showing Agostini glorifying guns, gangs and violence, which the judge described as 'chilling'.

Detective Sergeant Derek Wright said: "I am pleased that Agostini has received a lengthy sentence which sends a clear message to people involved in gun crime that the Criminal Justice System will not tolerate this. Islington Police officers are committed to disrupting gangs and taking guns and other dangerous weapons off of our streets."

Agostini was sentenced to six years for possession of a sawn-off shotgun to be followed by two years for possession of 46 rounds of expanding ammunition. In addition to this, he was sentenced to another year for possession of a further 29 rounds of ammunition to be served concurrently.
