26 year old murdered in Tooting

The Metropolitan Police have launched a murder enquiry following the death of a 26 year old man in Tooting.

Police were called at 14.40hrs on Sunday 5 February to reports of a man having been assaulted in Holmbury Court, SW17.

On arrival officers found a man suffering from a head injury. He was taken by ambulance to a south London hospital where he subsequently died on Tuesday 7 February.

The man has been formally identified as Anthony Thompson [21.7.85 - 26ys] of Derinton Road, SW17. His next of kin are aware.

A post mortem will be scheduled in due course.

An incident room has opened under Detective Chief Inspector Amanda Hargreaves from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command (HSCC).

At this early stage detectives believe that Anthony was with friends when he was assaulted during an altercation in the vicinity of Holmbury Court and are keeping an open mind regarding motive.

A 25 year old man (A) was arrested on Sunday 5 February and a 33 year old man (B) was arrested on Monday 6 February in connection with the inquiry. They have since been bailed until the 21 February.

On Tuesday 7 February, a 31 year old man (C) was arrested on suspicion of the murder. He remains in custody.
