4 year old child murdered in Clapton

The Met Police have started a murder inquiry into the death of a 4 year old girl in Clapton.

Police were called by the ambulance service at 15:23hrs on Thursday 16 December to reports of a stabbing at flat on the Chatsworth Estate in Clapton E5.

Police and the ambulance service attended and found a 4-year-old girl. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Next of kin have been informed, though we await formal identification.

A post-mortem examination will take place on 11.00hrs on Saturday 18 December at Poplar mortuary.

Officers from the Child Abuse Investigation Command Major Investigation Team are investigating.

A woman aged 36 years was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. She has since been sectioned under the Mental Health Act and remains in a secure unit at this time.

Enquiries continue.
