Will Cowell lose X-Factor Christmas Number 1 battle to The Muppets?

Simon Cowell could be set to lose his iron tight grip on the Christmas Number 1 spot.

A Muppets version of 'Bohemian Rhapsody' is the latest competitor taking on the X-Factor machine having taken YouTube by storm, a single of the track will be released, download-only, on 14 Dec.

Whether the song without the video will have the same appeal, time will tell. The video will also be available for download - the label insist on calling this a 'vingle' - though it is unclear whether that counts in terms of chart position.

Some hope the Muppets doing Queen might have the novelty appeal to finally stop the 'X-Factor' winner from automatically getting the once coveted Christmas number one spot in the singles chart.

A Facebook group has also been set up to try to encourage people to buy Rage Against The Machine's 'Killing In The Name' in Christmas chart week, in another bid to stop there being another 'X' festive chart topper, in this case by getting a fuck-filled x-rated tune to the top spot instead.

That group now has 457,338 members, which, assuming all those people are [a] in the UK and [b] fulfil their promise to buy the RATM single, means that particular campaign could become a serious contender for stopping whoever wins 'X-Factor' this weekend from getting their number one. Though not necessarily. In any normal chart week over 450,000 sales would send you straight to the number one spot without passing go. But in the Christmas chart week last year Alexandra Burke sold over 576,000 of her tedious cover of 'Hallelujah'. So, those supporting the 'RATM for number one' campaign could still do with finding some more supporters.
