By John the Cabby We have just had the third anniversary of the London suicide bombing's on the 7th of July, fifty two innocent people lost their lives on that sad day back in 2005.
Yet another form of terror exist's in London and other inner cities, that of gun and knife crime. Just look at the last eighteen months here in London, we have lost forty seven young lives yet in my opinion the response from the authorities has been slow to say the least. In fact thank god we have a new Mayor because Boris Johnson is serious about tackling this epidemic that is sweeping the capital.
Now both events have led to death, yet one because of it's horrific indiscriminate nature coupled with massive loss of life and casualties requires a immediate show of force by the Security Services with thousands of Police officers deployed to deter and assure us the public that the state is responding to the threat of terrorism. However gun and knife crime which effects predominantly those who live in the socially deprived parts of London has more of a drip drip effect before the numbers begin to add up and therefore it seems to be less of a priority. To prove my point this week a new unit was set up by the Metropolitan Police comprising of seventy five officers who would specifically target knife crime within the capital, need I say more ?
The immediate solution to this epidemic is better policing, officers who are well equipped back on the beat, we need real Police officers on the streets of London. Sir Ian Blair should deploy his reserve where the trouble exist's and communities must wake up and welcome these officers before another life is lost to a knife or gun. I am sick and tired of the excuses used by people, no matter how bad your lot is you should never be allowed to use circumstance or lack of opportunity to justify the taking of a life !
I have written about this subject before and yes it's still raining here in London, but has I look up into the clouds I see the light doing its best to shine through and that will always give me hope that those amongst us with the power to change things will do the right thing and just Police the streets of London properly. You can send the cavalry in after the event but what's the point. For if you have the cavalry held in reserve maybe you should have just sent them out on patrol in the first place, because intelligent Policing is to deter crime and not turn up after the event !
