The Westfield London has been accused by shoppers of hiking prices before Christmas to "rip off" levels with a stay of 2 hours incurring a charge of £7.50.  New charges introduced recently to coincide with the Christmas shopping period have seen parking charges go up from £2 per hour to £2.50 and increases that annoyed many shoppers.

Guido Antonelli of Primrose Hill said:
"I paid £10.00 to shop here, what a rip off, I might as well go to Oxford Street or Brent Cross, not fair and also before Christmas".

Westfield did not provide any comment on the story at the time of the story being filed.

The Westfield London parking rates:
Monday - Sunday

Up to 1 hour       £2.50
Up to 2 hours     £5.00
Up to 3 hours     £7.50
Up to 4 hours     £10.00
4 - 7 hours        £15.00
7 - 10 hours       £22.50
10 - 24 hours     £30.00

Also it was revealed today that Westfield London according to TomTom London’s Westfield Shopping Centre on 5th December will be the most congested shopping hotspot in Europe.

Traffic analysis also indicates that more of us are likely to do our Christmas shopping earlier than expected. In four out of the five countries surveyed, the first Saturday of the month – unlike previous years – is expected to be the busiest for shoppers.

So its fair is it to chage £10 for 3 hours parking in Shepherds Bush? Wake up mate, however good the shops are inside Westfield, penalising car drivers like this will deter people coming, and I for one have seen many people get extremely angry at the cynical hike in parking fees at Westfield just before Christmas. This will deter shoppers and harm retailers at Westfield, bad move!

Why is charging a market rate for a service a rip-off? Are the goods inside the shops a rip-off too? Why is free or subsidised parking a right, even though it costs to provide?
