Arsene Wenger has finally put pen to paper and signed a new contract keeping him at Arsenal football club until 2014. The news will come as a huge boost to the side on the day of the new Premier Leauge season, the Gunners kick off their 2010/11 campaign with a tough trip to Liverpool this Sunday The Frenchman had just a year left on his current deal and refused to be drawn on speculation that this season was his last at the Emirates. "I have to show how much I believe in this team by showing my commitment," the 60-year-old said. "My situation will be sorted out very soon." Not all fans will be pleased at the Gallic leader staying on - Wenger has failed to land the North Londoners a single piece of silverware in five years. There is no denying his footballing pedigree as the clubs most successful manager, winning 11 trophies in 13 years, three of those Premier League triumphs as well as reaching the Champions League and UEFA Cup finals. He was also said to be instrumental in persuading Cesc Fabregas in shunning Barcelona this summer. Wenger added: "I believe my commitment to the club has nothing do with the speculation of how the season would go, because that would be unfair. If I do not do well, and one day the club is not happy with me I can completely understand that I do not stay here any more. But I believe we will do well." What will be success is to improve from last year, which is to win the league - that is the only benchmark. You cannot finish third and then say for the season after, you want to finish behind that. We are a young side and the improvement is natural - the ambition is there, we are hungry for success. We know people want more from us and we are ready to give more, but success is to win the league." Photo - Wikipedia
