Yes all my colleagues in the taxi trade will know what I’m referring to and maybe some members of the public who happen to be loyal taxi-cab users, yes we are officially in a “kipper season” !
But what is a “Kipper Season” well it’s a time of year when ( normally the beginning of the year ) business is slow and taxi-cab drivers earning potential falls , so like any sensible business person you cut your cloth to meet your needs and one bill you certainly can cut is the food shopping bill.
So for me from Monday it is Kippers for breakfast and Kippers for tea, Kippers on toast and Kippers with tea, yes it really is amazing what you can do with this humble tasty fish, with or without butter even. Personally I like my kippers on brown bread no butter and a nice mug of tea ( sorry but coffee is a treat ), oh how I look forward to a mug of fresh ground coffee and Kippers on brown bread, that will be a sign of a economy beginning to recover when you hear taxi cab drivers talking about kippers and coffee.
Now enough of jesting and hopefully bringing a smile or grin to your face, times will be hard this year but we will continue to provide you the travelling public with a first class service, yes it’s never been easier to find a London taxi-cab honestly just watch how many pull over when you put your arm up to hail one. In fact we are a good barometer of the wider economy and yes we are in a recession officially and in reality the writing was on the wall way back in September 2007.
Now I like many others hope the banking community manage to offload, divest or start trading in mortgage backed securities on a futures market which should free up capital, bring value to these assets and kick start the global economy again otherwise many more of you my switch to eating kippers and in this world of global economics we wouldn’t want the price of kippers to rise, for what will us taxi-cab drivers eat then ?
God bless you all , taxi-cab drivers and all our passengers, plus all of you out there in this big wide globalised world let’s hope for the best and prepare for the worst and maybe we will end up somewhere in the middle and manage to muddle our way out of a very difficult spot. Enough of me I’m having beans on toast this morning and looking forward to Kippers on Monday.
Welcome to the “kipper season” !
