Editorial Its now slowly coming out that the London Olympics officially are going to cost more money that expected, and put more pressure on the Government locally and nationally to find the extra cash to make sure that the IOC officials who will come to London during the summer will have a jolly good time!
Well most in London are not even going to see the Olympics, ticket sales have been designed so that even the families of the athletes will struggle to obtain access to see the Games.
However with the British economy now one step away from recession, did we really need to find out the total cost of London 2012 will exceed £25 billion? When our schools are struggling, hospitals are being earmarked for closure, and companies are announcing closures daily.
Lets hope the "legacy" that is being touted by LOCOG is understood by London. Do we really care if more children take up javelin throwing? Should our priorities not be to make sure families have homes and jobs and then worry about the other stuff?
Its hard to have any reason to be inspired by London 2012, the joy of the Olympics has been drained for many of us in London, who have to commute daily on a tube system that is just about coping with daily commutes now. What happens when an extra 1 million passengers descend on London in the summer?
