Light dustings of volcanic ash is settling in the Thames Valley, according to the Met Office.

Health chiefs warned of the dangers of breathing in volcanic ash - people with breathing difficulties, such as asthma, were advised not to go outside if they see ash settling.

If they have to venture out they should wear a mask, said experts.

The Eyjafjallajökull volcano is still erupting, and possibly intensifying, with the ash plume rising to 30,000 feet.

The first reports of ash settling in the UK was on the Shetland Islands off Scotland.

Evidence of ash dust over the UK is being detected by Met Office observations and there are reports of dust reaching the ground.

Satellite imagery is showing the initial earlier plume currently between 20 and 30 thousand feet over central Europe, extending into parts of northern France and southern England.

Evidence of thin plumes of volcanic ash are still being detected within the UK, mainly at around six thousand feet, but also some reports at lower levels. Unconfirmed reports of slight ash deposits in places continue.

The Icelandic volcano is continuing to erupt periodically.
