By John Kaponi Editor-in-chief London Daily News Initial readings from tellers at polling stations across London are indicating that voter turnouts will not exceed 35 per cent, 2 per cent down on the turnout in 2004. The London Daily News reported on turnouts in Enfield, Barnet and Southgate earlier today which indicated record low levels of 10 per cent. The same polling stations at 20:00 were reporting 20 per cent turnouts, still well down on the mayoral and general election figures. A Labour official at an Enfield polling station said at 4pm today: "We have not seen such low numbers in a long time, the results will be very bad for the main parties". The turnout for the European election in 2004 stood at 37 per cent and produced the following results: Seats: Eight (down from nine) Electorate: 5.1 million 2004 result: Con 3, Lab 3, Lib Dem 1, Ukip 1, Green 1 (37.65pc turnout) The main parties are concerned that extremist parties will perform strongly acting as a protest vote against the scandals that have beset the main parties over expenses. photo credit: London Daily News
