TRAVEL DESK Londoner's are booking holidays to Turkey ahead of Spain, Cyprus and Greece, due to the credit crunch and the increasingly tough economic conditions in the UK.
A report by the Co-operative Travel Company has highlighted that a "seismic shift" in the way Briton's were buying holidays this summer, showing Turkey overtaking Spain the favourite location since the Sixties.
The average cost of a holiday to Spain is £465 but in Turkey its £357, the high euro has stopped many Brits going on holiday anywhere in the Euro-zone opting for other locations including Egypt. "Turkey has benefitted most from this trend and we're seeing 30 per cent growth in bookings across all parts of the country" the Co-op Travel director Trevor Davis speaking to the Daily Telegraph.
