Editorial The thugs who have destroyed entire neighbourhoods either black or white must not be allowed to get away with the criminality that has blighted our city, its time that law enforcement did its job. The Met Police have been shown to be utterly impotent, and unable to stand up to protect the citizens that support the police in "normal" times.
Its not good enough for the police to keep saying it was taken by surprise at the scale of the rioting that took place, all the millions of pounds that have been invested in cctv have been a total waste of money, and could have been spent on more police officers on the streets.
The way forward? We need visible robust police officers who are not scared of the criminals and who can start to ENFORCE the law. Take a trip to Scotland and see how the police officers work, the criminals know what it means when the law is being enforced, we want tough policing.
And to those pathetic voices who claim the reason for the riots are the cuts to youth centres in Haringey, so the Kurdish grocer in Wood Green is to blame for this? The totally ransacking of stores in Tottenham is the way to express your anger is it?
If the Government does not act today to stop this destruction of our society, we will have months of this violence, and more trouble on our streets. Its not a time for excuses we need actions to stop the criminals destroying our city further. Meanwhile LOCOG is testing sites for Olympics, volleyball if you will!
