TfL: Three strikes and you're out

Transport for London have announced another onslaught on beleaguered London motorists, three strikes and you're out.

New rules will see vehicles clamped and towed in Ealing, Hammersmith and Fulham, Kensington & Chelsea, if the owner has three unpaid fines - even if the car is legal parked at the time.

No room for appeal

While the moves have been broadly welcomed by groups such as the AA, there are concerns parking attendants will have cars towed away to locks ups while appeals are still ongoing - meaning innocent motorists may have their cars seized.

TfL maintain that there are safeguards in place to protect people who have bought a car from a persistent offender. London's top 20 offenders have over 1,700 unpaid parking and traffic fines between them.

In two months traffic wardens will have access to the offenders database on handheld computers and call in the clampers then and there. Vehicles will not be released until all fines have been paid in full.
