A Palestinian construction worker manned and drove a bulldozer into vehicles and people in western Jerusalem on Wednesday, killing three Israeli women and wounding scores more before he was shot dead by security officials. In what police believe to be a terrorist attack, the bulldozer crashed into several vehicles including a bus with 35 people on board near the old Central Bus Station in downtown Jerusalem. “There is no doubt at all that this was a terrorist attack,” said Micky Rosenfeld, a police spokesman revealed at the scene. Rosenfeld also added that the authorities were looking into any terrorist links to the man. Police did point out the man had a criminal background, but there had been no indications of an imminent attack. Mark Regev, an Israeli spokesman called the attack, a “senseless act of murderous violence.” President Bush called Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to express condolences about the attack and intended to follow up with his Palestinian counterpart, President Mahmoud Abbas, a White House aide revealed. The incident is the first major attack in Jerusalem since March, when eight students were shot dead when a gunman opened fire in a Jewish seminary.
