Mayor Johnson will today press the coalition Government to support a new airport hub for London in order to enable an increase in aviation capacity in London and the south east.  Heathrow is currently running at full capacity according to aviation experts, with little hope for expansion following opposition for a third runway by the Conservative party.

London will suffer economically, according to Mayor Johnson, if aviation capacity is not increased and will mean middle-east, Asian, and US investor’s  chose other EU member states, and not London.

Mayor Johnson has advocated the creation of a new airport on the Thames Estuary, which has been attacked for being a potential "environmental disaster".

Speaking at a seminar discussing the need for increased aviation capacity in London and the south east held at City Hall will be the Mayor of London, Daniel Moylan (Deputy Chairman of TfL, Richard Reid (London head of KPMG), Stuart Popham (was Senior Partner of Clifford Chance up until December 2010 and is currently Chairman of CityUK), Mark Garvin (Chairman of JP Morgan Treasury and Securities Services Europe Limited), and Professor Sir Peter Hall, the country’s leading academic planning specialist.
