- Spurs fans ready for the "big step up" Sports Desk
Peter Crouch made history for the north London giants, Tottenham Hotspur last night with a goal in the 82nd minute heralding the return of the Spurs to the "big league" of football in Europe, by clinching fourth place in the Premiership and qualifying for the Champions League.
After nearly thirty years, and seeing rivals Arsenal annually playing in the Champions League Spurs who started the season in the relegation zone, are now favourites to come third, and come ahead of the Gunners.
North London streets were awash with ecstatic Spurs fans, in Southgate and Enfield, hotbeds of Spurs supporters the streets were full of celebrating Spurs who chanted "there is only one club in north London", one Spurs die-hard Mehmet Hassan in Southgate said:
"I have followed Spurs in the hard years, and now we are all vindicated for our loyalty with Champions League football, and next season who knows we may even have a stab at the Premiership".
Spurs are likely to face Ajaz, Celtic, Werder Bremen, Porto, Mallorca, Sampdoria, Lyon, CSKA Moscow and Olympiakos if they finish fourth.
