A soon to be disbanded specialist Met police unit has seen a Hungarian human trafficker who raped and beat his girlfriend and forced her to work as a prostitute sent down for 16 years. Blackfriars Crown Court heard how Bertalan Lakatos 27, had been in a relationship with the 35-year-old mother-of-one for a year when the pair fell on hard times. Laktos pimped out his own girlfriend across Europe for two years, regularly beating, raping her and stealing all of her earnings - he then brought her to the UK where he forced her to work as a prostitute on the streets of London. He was arrested in April last year after she made told police he beat her. Specialist unit Following an investigation by the Met's soon to be disbanded Human Trafficking Team, Lakatos was eventually found guilty of two counts of sex trafficking, two counts of controlling prostitution and ABH. Detective Inspector Steve Wilkinson, head of the MPS's Human Trafficking Team, he hoped "this result will encourage any other victims to come forward" Adding: "It is only by the bravery and courage of those who have experienced such a horrendous crime coming forward that we are able to secure results like today's. In doing so, the Met's Human Trafficking Team have successfully brought to justice someone who strives to violate and exploit others for their own greed."
