Security services, government agencies and banks are scrambling for a new self destructing memory stick.
There have been several serious security lapses with staff losing the small laptop enabled device.
87 have been lost by the government including the Home Office's infamous loss of Police National Computer and prisoner data which held 377,000 records.
A new 32GB 'Security Guardian' contains an internal ‘alarm’ that requires a coded password to override.
If it plugged into an unauthorised computer, or if the code is entered incorrectly, it is programmed to wipe its own memory in seconds. Owners who fear the bad guys have got hold of the device can delete its cache remotely via an encrypted text message. The stick also comes with GPS to track its whereabouts to within 30 metres.
Everyone from the NHS, high street banks and the NHS have all shown a ‘serious’ interest, according to Norman Shaw, an IT security specialist and brains behind the gadget
