The Salsa dance phenomenon in London is spreading with more and more people getting involved, practicing the intricate movements required to become a "master" in this dance art.  One seasoned expert the affable and private school educated barrister Anwar Azari is leading his "social revolution" at one of London's trendy night spots, with the "Brown Sugar" Salsa night on every Sunday.

Speaking to the London Daily News "Azari" as he is known by his students said:

"Salsa brings together people from all walks of life, we dance, we talk, we even get intimate in our dance, and we can all forget about the problems we have in our lives for a few hours".

The origins of Salsa can be traced back to Cuba reflecting the Salsa dancing mixes of African and European dance influences through the music and dance fusions that are the roots of Salsa: Son, Guaguancó, Rumba, Boogaloo, Pachanga, Guaracha, Plena and Bomba.

The movements require the man to "lead" the woman with a slight tug to the left to indicate a spin, or push to indicate a movement back etc.  Salsa requires you to relax to allow the music to dictate the pace of your movements and to express yourself via the highly technical dance movements.

The "Brown Sugar" Salsa night attracts south and central Americans, along with a sprinkle of eastern Europeans, Londoners and people that enjoy good Latin music; all organised by "Azari" who provides beginners a free crash course in Salsa dancing.

A night not to be missed Sunday's from 7:30pm at Brown Sugar 146 High Holborn London WC1V 6PJ.  For more information contact www.salsalibre.co.uk
