Safety of flights to Cyprus questioned

Concerns by the Republic of Cyprus aviation safety committee and Civil Aviation Authority of Cyprus have been made following the switch over of control of the islands two main airports to Hermes a privately owned consortium from the government.

Over 2 million tourists from the UK are expected to fly to Cyprus from the UK this year, using various airlines to travel to the island.

Allegations that ground staff loaded wrong planes with the wrong cargo were made on the state run CYBC morning news programme, with further concerns that the load of the planes rendered flights as nearing "hazardous".

The Cyprus aviation industry is under scrutiny following the deaths of 121 passengers on the Helios flight from Cyprus to Athens.
