The number 65 has been revealed as Londoners most hated bus route. Running from Ealing Broadway to Kingston, the 24-hour bus received more complaints than any other route. Val Shawcross, Labour London Assembly member for Lambeth and Southwark, asked Boris Johnson to list the ten London bus routes with the highest number of passenger complaints about overcrowding or poor performance. The Mayor's answer showed over 100 people complained about the West London service - saying it rarely turned up and it was a bit of a joke. The service, currently contracted to Transdev London, was also the fourth worst at sticking to its timetable.
Service 'under review'
Anger was also reserved for the single-decker route C10 from Canada Water to Victoria. 98 commuters complained to Transport for London about overcrowding and poor performance on the route. North Southwark and Bermondsey MP Simon Hughes says TfL Transport Commissioner Peter Hendy would commission a full review of the route. Go-Ahead London curently owns the contract. A Transport for London spokesperson sighted roadworks as the main cause of delays, adding: "We do share passengers' frustration that the service hasn't been meeting our high standards and will continue to work with the bus operator, London Central, to ensure the route returns to its previous standards."
South London service "not good enough"
Three of the routes were in south London, which has no major Tube network. Shawcross said: "It’s not good enough that we are putting up with a service that performs so badly. We feature so much on the complaints list because people are more reliant on the bus routes here. We have more problems of bus overcrowding. People are more likely to take a bus because they can’t get on the Tube or there isn’t an Underground near them. They need more money spending on them." The 188 route that travels from Greenwich to Russell Square via Rotherhithe, Bermondsey and Elephant & Castle was ranked fourth on the list, receiving 55 complaints from passengers.
