Mayor of London Boris Johnson has already "enthusiastically" backed London’s first cruise liner terminal on the river Thames and has called for the new cruise terminal to be situated in Greenwich, and it should be open in time for the 2012 Olympic Games.
London Conservative MEP Syed Kamall has adddd his name to the voices who want more use to be made of the river Thames and said:
"London has under-utlised one of its greatest assets, the river Thames, for far too long and I urge strongly both the Mayor of London and the Government to consider transforming the Thames into a viable alternative mode of transport in London."
"The river Thames is one of the greatest urban waterfronts in the world and that is why I will urge all my colleagues in the European Parliament when they visit London to use the Thames Clipper from Westminster Peer and travel to Greenwich to see London's jewel the river Thames."
"We need to start thinking more about river travel in London and investigate the feasibility of fully integrating river transport into the the Oyster system."
Former mayor of London Ken Livingston introduced the Thames Clipper, which acts as a commuter service and tourist cruiser along the Thames with oyster cards accepted on the Clipper.
