If you are increasingly irritated at the plethora of left-wing, tree hugging stand-ups in London you must cross the "pond" to get a dose of the up and coming "conservative stand up" circuit. Normally defined in the US as anti-Obama, anti-immigration, anti-state healthcare the "conservative comediennes" are now growing in popularity, with one name being touted in the US, featuring regularly on the Fox news network; Ellen Karis the former Wall Street financier who turned to stand-up to develop her "expressive side". Speaking to the London Daily News from New York, the recently married Ellen Karis described her politics as representing what the "Democrats were years ago and what the conservatives are today".
With Ellen Karis stand-up routine focusing on the "big questions" in the United States like healthcare and tax Karis said:
"I trained as an accountant and fiscally I believe in low taxes". Commenting on immigration and the number of immigrants in the United States who do not speak English Karis said:
"English is now a second language in the United States, if I lived in Italy I would learn Italian. My grandparents learnt to speak English".
The daughter of Greek immigrants raised in New York Karis fuses her Greek experiences into her "one woman show" that is currently touring in the United States.
"Something’s in my childhood I kept a log of, and use in my routine but I like to combine that with my love for business and math, and love how the USA was built."
"I started developing my act during my acting classes and then went into comedy and did some improv at the time talking about the drama of my sisters wedding, and this is how it started. I did a course, and invited people to open mics and then in bars".
Karis is now focusing launching a career as a talk show host "I would love to have a talk show, and would like to present a show, I love entertainment".
Ellen Karis will be appearing on March 6th at 5:30pm in Bergen County, NJ-Venue to be announced-Ellen Karis & Jim Mendrinos are taping their Greek Stand-Up Comedy show for their new DVD..Ticket price is $20 suggested and all proceeds will be donated to St. Michael's Home for the Aged in Yonkers.
