Review John Kaponi - New essence 2 control

For those of you who have accumulated dozens of controls, tv, dvd, ipod, ps2, satelite, amp and whatever else you might want to "remotely manipulate" the guys at "One for All" have  come out with possibly one of their best ever, and best value for money controls.

In a new range of four low cost universal remotes the "Essence 2" costs just £12.99 and features 'combi-control'.  It will operate the TV and set top box at the same time - there's no need to change modes, let alone switch between two different remotes.

One of the problems I have faced with remote controls is the "dropping and smashing to pieces" scenario, how many controls I have destroyed I fail to recall, suffice to say enough to merit several visits to a local Currys.  The Essence 2 range, offers a sturdy and very sleek designed remote control, that will with stand the useage of my five year old, who loves messing around with remotes, normally until they break.

If you have not got the patience to sit down and programme a remote control, like me, "The Essence range" is really easy to programme too.  To set up a Samsung  TV, for example, just press the 'Magic' key, press the 'TV' key, then  press and hold the '7' digit until the TV switches off.  That's it!   This three button SimpleSet system, unique to One For All, works for all the most popular brands.  No more searching for code numbers, you'll be up and running in minutes.

The Essence 3 model costs £14.99 and operates three devices - TV, satellite/cable/freeview box and DVD.  It has the same pre-installed  combi-control and SimpleSet features, and comes in white instead of  black.

Four devices can be controlled by Essence 4 - TV,  satellite/cable/freeview box, DVD, plus amplifier/tuner or home cinema
unit.  It also has a 'learning' feature which means you can copy any  function from the original remote onto any key of the Essence 4.  It is  priced £17.99.

With its easy menu navigation and set up, the new Essence range  simplifies digital TV viewing and reduces clutter.   It will be available at Currys, PC World, Comet, Asda, Tesco and Maplins, as well as online at  www.argos.co.uk.

4/5 - Very Good
