West Ham United who are being tipped as likely fall guys from the Premiership, having lost last night to Wolves 3-1 at home, are making an audacious bid with Newham Council in £537 million attempt to move to the 2012 stadium after the Olympic games.
The Olympic Park Legacy Company has opened an eight week period for parties to register an interest in the stadium, with UK Athletics the UK’s governing body also interested to have the Stratford based stadium as its base.
West Ham if successful with see the planned 80,000 seater stadium reduced to 50,000, which would be an increase of around 17,000 extra seats for the club, based on its current capacity. A running track will remain in the stadium, who ever is the new tenant after the 2012 games.
