Rattling Cages

Yesterday the RMT London taxi branch held a demonstration outside Westminster City Hall in Victoria Street SW1. Their members were complaining because they receive parking tickets when they stop for a call of nature. The new text and park scheme doesn’t really work when you are bursting to relieve yourself or worse still have a medical condition.

Yet members of the public who work in air conditioned offices with toilet facilities fail to understand the needs of those who happen to drive taxi-cabs, including those who work for local authorities and transport for London.

Listening to the James Whale show on LBC 97.3 fm it was odd to hear Martin Lowe of Westminster City Council take a swipe at the fastest growing taxi union in the capital. Many taxi-cab drivers have had enough of the lame easy to praise do nothing until it’s too late attitude displayed by a couple of trade organisations.

The RMT certainly have made an impact and will surely become a bigger force within the taxi trade over the next few weeks and months, with membership growing by the day those in authority should be concerned that the London taxi-cab driver has had enough of them promising the earth but failing to deliver on many counts.

One thing the London taxi-cab driver can be assured of is the fact that Bob Crow stands up for his members with a no fuss , blunt, honest, straight to the point style of a negotiating.
