With May just around the corner the race for City Hall is about to hot up with a repeat of the last election back in 2008. In the blue Tory corner we have the present Mayor of London Boris Johnson and in the red Labour corner we have the former Mayor Ken Livingstone. The Liberal Democrats are at best left holding a bucket as it appears they haven't been able to put up a credible candidate other than that ex MP Lembit "Op kit" who craves celebrity more than high public office.

With Boris and Ken very close in the polls the second preference vote or endorsement of any Liberal Democrat candidate could be crucial to the final outcome of this major London election. When Ken Livingstone won the Labour nomination he went straight to work campaigning in the suburbs of London where he lost the vote last oI& it has to be said neglected in his previous where he lost the vote last time and neglected the electorate in his previous two terms in office. Boris v Ken, Tory v Labour or Blue v Red this will be an election like no other for both these men are fighting for their political careers and the future of a London through their eyes.

Law, Order and transport will top the election campaign along with central Government cuts. The cuts will no doubt play towards the Ken Livingstone camp but Boris has done rather well protecting major infrastructure projects in the capital, however building a cable car at the cost of £50.5 million could look a little extravagant whilst services are getting cut left, right hand and centre.

The clock maybe be ticking for the Olympics in Trafalgar Square but by May 2012 one of these two London political heavyweights will be drowning their sorrows in the fountains of Trafalgar Square.

Time to blow the whistle and start the marathon race for City Hall...
