Any MPs to quit on expenses? Don't bet on it!

Something the bookies didn't have to tell us are odds are long on any MP quitting over expenses.

Number crunchers at William Hill are offering 3/1 that one or MPs will quit; citing the expenses issue as the reason, but 2/9 that none at all will go.

Spokesman Graham Sharpe said:

"MPs seem united in their determination to brazen out the virtually universal condemnation on the grounds that everything they have done is within the rules - albeit rules they have made themselves. If one were to quit it would be seen as proof that they were all guilty."

PM out end of the year

The men who know have slashed the odds of Gordon Brown being Prime Minister by the end of the year.

One of the largest bookmakers in the UK say they haven't seen a bet of any size either for Mr Brown to remain in office until the Election or for Labour to win it since the recession began - odds are 2/1 to 6/4 he'll be given the boot.

Hills man said:

"...since the Expenses scandal broke, punters are lining up to bet on Brown's imminent departure."

Caretaker PM?

Alan Johnson is now favourite for the top job.

The scramble for Browns job sees the Health Secretary backed from 6/1 to 4/1 favourite to succeed Gordon Brown as Labour Leader with Hills who make Harriet Harman 5/1 second favourite and also offer 7/1 David Miliband; Ed Miliband; 8/1 Jon Cruddas; James Purnell; Jack Straw; 10/1 John Denham; 12/1 Ed Balls; 14/1 Andy Burnham.

He might not be there very long with the bookmakers giving the Tories the shortest odds they have been since losing power, at 4/11, having been 1/2. The chances of a Hung Parliament are put at 9/4.

Jonna Lumley has been made a 10/1 chance to become an MP at the next General Election after leading the campaign to give Gurkhas the right to settle in Britain which resulted in a Commons defeat for the Government.

She is also 50/1 to become the next Mayor of London.
