Al Qaeda planning new wave of attacks on West

In tapes released by the second in command of Al Qaeda, Ayman Al-Zawahiri has said that a new wave of attacks on the West is planned.

Answering questions by supporters whether the terror group had plans to attack Western countries that participated in the US led invasion of Iraq, al-Zawahiri said, "My answer is, yes. We think that any country that joined aggression on Muslims must be deterred."

Al-Zawiri also poured scorn on Iran in a response that Israel was behind the 9/11 attacks "The purpose of this lie is clear -- (to suggest) that there are no heroes among the Sunnis who can hurt America as no else did in history. Iranian media snapped up this lie and repeated it," he said.

"Iran's aim here is also clear -- to cover up its involvement with America in invading the homes of Muslims in Afghanistan and Iraq," he added.

Iran cooperated with the United States in the 2001 U.S. assault on Afghanistan that toppled the Taliban, an al Qaeda ally.

Security services in the UK have been carrying out simulated attacks in anticipation of any attacks from groups like Al Qaeda.
