Women in London are turning to offering sexual services to beat the credit crunch according to research by the London Daily News.

Prostitution in London or sexual services offered by women for men in London has increased by over 50% per cent in comparison to the same levels two years ago.

According to research by the London Daily News there were 1156 women offering sexual services to men in  central and northern London in 2007, that   number has increased to 3484 .

The average price for a "full service" is £50 which has dropped from around £75 a year ago.  "Nicola" a working girl in the City of London who spoke to the London Daily News said:

"We have seen a massive influx of eastern European girls and students from the UK becoming working girls and with the recession alot more women are turning to working in the business".

The number of working women offering unprotected sex has also increased given the increase of competition and the apparent decline in demand.  "Daniella" a working girl in Earls Court said:

"Work is drying up and we are having to cut prices and offer more risqué things like 'bareback' or oral sex with no condom."

The credit crunch has forced more women into the oldest profession in the world with many working in private apartments or houses in London, and not the traditional "massage parlours".  

The London Daily News research indicates that women are offering services at 15 minutes is £50, 30 minutes is £75, 1 hour is £99 for the hour, 2 hours,£200.

There are no official government figures of how many prostitutes operate in London, estimates by various sources indicate around 20,000 women in the capital are involved in the sex business.
