The fortunes of Christian O'Connell the morning radio presenter on Virgin 105.8FM have sunk to new lows, with a brash attempt to boost the fortunes of his early morning slot by hijacking the rival show on BBC London 94.9FM, presented by Joanne Good and Paul Ross. The early morning slot on BBC London was to interview Dr Who actor David Tennant when Christian O'Connell made an impromptu appearance on the early morning slot by interrupting an interview by Joanne Good. The interview took place via an ISDN line at a Virgin station, according to O'Connell was enough reason for him to violate all codes in journalism and sabotage a rival’s interview. "Hi David its Christian from Virgin radio...." was how O'Connell interrupted the interview saying that a kid was desperate to get Tennants autograph.
Rumours in the industry intimate that O'Connell is facing the axe with one insider saying on his prospects of another prime slot "I would have liked to see Christian make a move to 6 Music Breakfast or even back to X, but both those avenues are now closed." The Independent covered the incident by stating: "Listeners to BBC London were astonished when a live interview with David Tennant and Catherine Tate was hijacked. The interview was taking place via an ISDN line from a Virgin studio. But BBC presenter Joanne Good was horrified when Virgin's Christian O'Connell cut her off to ask his own question. "It was desperate of a commercial radio station to poach our listeners."
