News Desk - 2:40pm Prime Minister David Cameron and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, held the first coalition government press conference in the garden of 10 Downing Street pledging to work for the "national interest", with a commitment to shape a "news politics" in a time of great uncertainty. The new government will be focusing on three main principles of freedom, fairness and responsibility.
Prime Minister Cameron vowed to provide a "strong and stable government, with determined leadership for the long term"
The Liberal Democrats were reassured time and again in the brief address by the Prime Minister by saying that there are "5 Liberal Democrats as front bench ministers" and "Liberal Democrats represented at every level of government".
The Prime Minister underlined his commitment for a "sincere determination to make this coalition work"
The main priorities of the new government are to safeguard national security, tackle the debt crisis and build a stronger society.
"We need a new politics, with the national interest better than the party interest, and an end of "chronic short-termism" of past governments"
The joint press conference underlined the "historic and seismic shift" of politics that both coalition leaders emphasised, the Prime Minister said "we want something bigger and better".
Nick Clegg would address the Prime Minister with "David and I" and this was reciprocated with "Liberal Democratic and Conservative government".
Members of the press focused on questions on how the "operational" aspects of the government would operarte with questions asked over when the Deputy Prime Minister would stand-in for the Prime Minister, and where the offices of the Depute Prime Minister would be.
