Lough Erne Resort will no longer host the 2017 Irish Open. A suitable alternative may be Portstewart.

The European Tour confirmed this morning the doubts started in January about the place where the golf competition will be held. The most feasible location for the event is Portstewart.

The new destination was already visited by the officials. It was checked to see if it is suitable to stage the event.

The first announcement regarding the place where the Irish Open would take place was made in 2014. At that time, the Lough Erne Resort was the favorite.

Even though the plans have changed, it is most probably that the resort will host a European Tour related event in the future. It all depends on the relationship with the new ownership consortium.
