The Metropolitan Police has issued a warning against football hooligans attempting to commit violence this Saturday at the West Ham vs Millwall game.

The Metropolitan Police Service is working closely with partners to ensure the Millwall vs West Ham Utd fixture this Saturday (17 September) is safe and trouble-free for supporters and the wider public.

A pan-London operation has been put in place working with the football clubs and British Transport Police on match day. The operation extends to cover various transport hubs across London as well as the immediate area around the Millwall ground.

There will be a high-visible policing presence across south London and officers will be taking proactive action to deter the carrying of weapons and any violence. The aim is to ensure that the fans who want to enjoy the game are able to do so without it being disrupted by a small minority of trouble-makers.

Whilst there is no specific information at present to suggest that acts of organised disorder are planned, we remain committed to ensuring The Den remains a safe place.

We encourage both Millwall and West Ham Utd fans to work with us to create a pleasant and safe atmosphere to allow everyone to enjoy the day.

We remind West Ham Utd and Millwall supporters that they will not be able to purchase tickets on the day of the match and advise anyone without tickets not to travel to the game.

Superintendent Suzanne Wallace, from Lewisham police, said:

"We aim to ensure supporters can travel to and from the match safely and enjoy the game and we have been working alongside the clubs, transport authorities and British Transport Police to ensure this happens.

"Our message to fans is simple - we will police match day fairly but firmly. If you're coming to enjoy the game, we will help you do that; However, if you intend to cause trouble you will find your efforts thwarted."

Supt Wallace added: "I would like to thank local residents and businesses for their patience as we appreciate their day may be disrupted but we will make efforts to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum."
