London could see lose £30 million from central Government, a subsidy that currently pays for free travel for the over 60s and disabled passengers in a review of subsidised travel; provoking the immediate condemnation of London local authorities.
Kulver Ranger the Mayors Transport adviser said in The Times:
"Its is quite simply outrageous for the Government to announce it intends to reconsider funding arrangements that were already agreed and we will be seeking urgent clarification from the minister (Sadiq Khan) on how this might affect Londoners"
The Chairman of the London Councils association Merrick Cockell also condemned the Governments actions and said in The Times:
"Boroughs have already budgeted for this funding and now London is facing having the amount of funding it was promised halved."
Westminster Council has already conceded that it will have to fill the gap in funding with £1million of its own cash if the plans by Government get approval.
Currently the Government is undertaking a review of its subsidy policy and will conclude this process by the end of the year.
