If you are looking for a traditional British cuisine restaurant with exquisite dishes and evocative tastes, Penny Black is the news place to visit.

The Penny Black Restaurant opened its doors to food lovers just a week ago and has already delivered on its promise of "delicious British gastronomy". The dishes are delicately worked presenting British cuisine with a modern touch of zest. The flavours and the whole atmosphere add to an elegant dining experience in the heart of Chelsea, Penny Black is a fitting establishment for anyone visiting London in the build up to the royal wedding later this year.  The image of the iconic Penny Black stamp is emblazoned in the restaurant adding to that "regal" feel, whilst still delivering on style.

The menu has been selected carefully by Tony Ho and his team with starters varying from oysters, scallops, fried potatoes, crispy bacon mixed salad to pig heads terrine, sour dough toast, pear chutney.  The starters were well cooked, aptly seasoned and well presented.

For the main, the Beef Wellington with potato celeriac and baked roast carrots is the signature dish of the restaurant. The beef was cooked medium rare leaving the customers to enjoy every bit of the meal. A layer of spices gives an utterly delicious taste to the beef. The potato celeriac and the baked roast carrots cooked in style complete an excellent dish.

The desert was equally well cooked; the Apple Snow is an absolute "must-try" at The Penny Black. Served in a glass, the Apple Snow consists of blended apples with cream accompanied with extra sour cream on top. The taste is very fresh and the idea very original.

The restaurant also offers a great range of wines to accompany your meal and a personal bottle service, giving the opportunity to wine connoisseurs - and not only - to reserve wines of their desire and enjoy them for their next visit.

The members of staff were all pleased to help the London diners make their choices of both dishes and wines providing an excellent service. The charming surrounding with elegant decoration creates a warm atmosphere, which combines to fulfil an unforgettable experience for food lovers. Penny Black is indeed the latest classy arrival in London to the dining setup of Chelsea aiming to indulge all gourmets.

Expect to pay between £30-£35 per head without wine.

4/5 Very good
