The Metropolitan Police have paid out £400,000 to a man who cut his hand whilst repairing a squad car. Alexander Darg, 39, made the claim after he cut himself on a knife wedged beside the driver's seat of a police car at Limehouse station in 2002. He had claimed £1m in compensation - despite the Met admitting liability for the cuts, they vigorously contested the extent of the injuries. Complex regional pain syndrome
The High Court heard how injuries to his index and middle fingers led to him to develop "Complex regional pain syndrome" to his other hand and feet leading him to quit mobile technician firm Venson. £32,500 was awarded for pain, suffering and loss of enjoyment -the rest being compensation for past and future earning. However the court also heard that Mr Darg can walk, drive and pursue his shooting hobby.
