Online music news website has recorded a milestone with Comscore ranking www.gigwise.com #20 making it the biggest music news website in the UK, according to figures for October 2010. The latest Comscore Key measure statistics for October 2010 have now confirmed Gigwise as one of the UK's biggest dedicated music news website positioning at #20 in music entertainment (3 places above NME who positioned at #23). Positions #1 to #19 are occupied by music networks MTV NETWORKS MUSIC, Vevo, and Tonefuse Music.
Heralding another success for the so called "alternative media" gigwise.com which launched in 2001, has grown from a small music listing website in Liverpool, to now becoming one of the most popular online music websites currently in the UK. With offices in East London and part of Giant Digital which has since launched other sites covering entertainment, film, gossip news and urban entertainment. Gigwise has consistently been at the cutting edge of music, often breaking exclusive stories on music’s biggest acts.
The "alternative media" have now become targets for acquisitions by larger media groups with US sites leading the way in this trend, with the Huffington Post receiving $25 million in a recent placing with private equity firms. TMZ.com the US gossip site was recently valued at $100 million, owned by Time Warner. The editor of gigwise.com Jason Gregory said:
