Today we hear the 2012 Games will cost more, than the estimated £9.3 billion with the Olympic Delivery Authority admitting that it will need to raid the dwindling "contingency fund" to plug a hole left by the "financial downturn" which will see £160 million released from the fund.

What is becoming evident is that the ODA and the other authorities involved in the completion of the 2012 venues, are now beginning to feel the real and stark deadlines looming to finish the venues with some less than a year to go.

Given the very modest support for the 2012 Games amongst Londoners, what the ODA and LOCOG have to avoid is springing new costs.  What we do not want now is more PR from the ODA about how amazing the venues will be when finished, but a realistic estimate of when these venues will be ready, the final costs, and more importantly what London will do with the venues after completion.

London won the 2012 Games, but will lose the support of the public if the "Games" are seen to be a cost too much in city where the recession has hit so many people.
