18 officers disciplined for Facebook crash group

18 cops have been disciplined after posting photos about crashes and bragging about hitting pedestrians.

The Metropolitan police officers created a Facebook group called: 'Look I've Had a Pocol' - slang for police collision. At one time the group boasted 200 members.

'Did him a favour'

One photograph posted showed a police vehicle in an accident with a small white car. The officer who posted it wrote:

"I did him a favour. At 82 years old you just shouldn't be on the road and if you are, then most certainly don't go through a green light into the path of an innocent police car."

Pictures showed officers in uniforms giving thumbs up next to crashed cars, smashed up patrol vehicles even members of the public were ridiculed. One post read:

"Ran over a drunk. I believe he has a permanent limp and a hefty payout. I was given a three-month holiday from job driving. Ooh, bummer."

Another even boasted about how many crashes a colleague of his had, saying:

"What's everyone's "impressive" record? A DC I know claimed to have had 4 POLCOLS in his first 2 years of driving. Anyone top that?"

Written warnings

14 officers were given 'written warnings' while others had 'words in their ears' according to a Met spokesman.

More police misconduct

It's not the first time police officers have been reprimanded for buffoonery. In January a copper who gave a 'thumbs up' to speed cameras received a driving ban and a £400 fine.

In South Wales several cops were disciplined for competing to see how far away they could travel from the station during their shift.

Of the officers, nicknamed the "seaside five", two were told to resign from the force, another two were fined 13 days pay and a fifth resigned before the conduct hearing.
