The leading African activist Toyin Agbetu has been arrested at the Notting Hill Carnival following a dispute it is alleged with the float of BBC 1 Xtra and its apparent refusal to obey a 3 minute silence in memory of the African slaves who died over the centuries at the hands of Europeans. The 3 minute silence was obeyed according to sources contacted by the London Daily News by all floats apart from the BBC 1 Xtra float. The situation deteriorated when Agbetu was apparently approached by security with BBC 1 Xtra and then the police it is alleged arrested Agbetu. Also incidents in Ladbroke Grove involving serious violence and fights caused the Police to install a blockade around the area with members of the public caught up. Riot police were sent in with sight of territorial support officers involved to calm the violence. A police officer also sustained a serious facial injury in the events. Carnivaliers alleged the police were heavy handed and that stop and search by the police had increased. The Police have confirmed that 165 arrests have been made as of this evening which is already up on last years numbers. 3 x assault
