Nightmare journeys ahead as London Overground shutsdown for three months

Just as a new superstock of trains were revealed come news that London Overground will shutdown a major part of the network for three months.

Tens of thousands of Londoners face nightmare journeys on the Richmond to Stratford line, where trains will terminate at Gospel Oak from 20th February until the 31st May.

The closures come as part of Transport for London's plans for an orbital railway around London.

New timetable - knock on effect

A new timetable will be introduced on the Western section but there will be no service on most Sundays until May 2011. Buses will replace trains over this section.

There will also be a knock on effect to other Overground routes including the Willesden Junction to Clapham Junction branch.

The route has already been subject to weekend closures and commuters will have to switch to the dreaded Rail Replacement bus.

East London Line could reopen by April

The first phase, to get the East London line section running, means that new platforms need to be built at Dalston Kingsland station which will be the North terminus for the extended East London Line.

Other work going on between the closed section is to facilitate the frequent running of longer trains with increased capacity and reliability across London on time for the Olympics in 2012.
