DETECTIVES INVESTIGATING the murder of a teenager in Newham last month are releasing a series of images they hope could assist their investigation.

16-year-old Ailton Campos De Oliveira was stabbed to death in Denbigh Road E6 on Sunday 4 July after being chased by a group of suspects.

Officers are releasing CCTV images of a number of witnesses they believe may have seen either the victim being chased by the suspects just prior to the stabbing; or the suspects fleeing the scene immediately after the incident.

Detectives stress that these individuals are not involved in the incident, but may be able to provide vital information which could assist the inquiry.

Investigating officers can now confirm that Ailton was riding a distinctive bike when he was initially confronted by the group in Boundary Lane E6. They pulled him from the bike, stealing it, before then chasing him into Denbigh Road where he was fatally wounded.

The bike is a black 'Hardrock' model, with the brand 'Specialized' in red letters along the body. It also features distinctive customized white front shock absorbers, which had been fitted by Ailton. An image of the bike with the shock absorbers superimposed has been created by police.

Along with his bike, the suspects also stole Ailton's Blackberry 'Curve' mobile phone.

The suspects are described as black and in their mid-to-late teens. Detectives are unable to confirm a specific number, but are aware that some of the group were on bikes.

On the night of the murder police were called at approximately 01.10hrs to Denbigh Road E6.

Ailton was discovered at the scene suffering stab injuries. He was taken by ambulance to Royal London Hospital where he died two days later.

A post-mortem gave cause of death as stab wound to the chest.

An incident room has opened at Barking under DCI Simon Moring (HSCC).

He said: "I am releasing these images in the hope someone will recognise themselves as a potential witness and come forward.

"I need these individuals to contact my team as they may have information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, which could assist the investigation.

"I am also appealing to anyone who may have seen Ailton's distinctive bike or been offered it for sale to come forward."

Anyone with information is asked to call the incident room on 020 8345 4142; if you wish to remain anonymous please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
