Another investigation is under way into three more deaths at Northwick Park's maternity ward. 10 women have died there in three years and the hospital had been under "special measures" between 2002-2005. Report stated improvements
A report by the North West London trust in September 2006 had praised the unit sighting service had improved "significantly". While the trust is reporting this latest investigation as a review, there have been three maternal deaths in the last 10 months. A maternal death is described as the death of a mother during pregnancy or within 42 days of delivery. Details are not being released into the circumstances of the deaths, though it is believed the last woman died late March of this year. Trust: 'Review is an opportunity'
Fiona Wise, chief executive of The North West London Hospitals NHS Trust presented the review as an opportunity to recheck systems and measures. Allowing them to "reassure" the hospital that "there is no common link" between the deaths and to see whether staff did all they could. Patients' Associations have welcomed the review.
