More cops charged with theft

The Metropolitan Police has confirmed that two more serving officers have been charged with theft, in a week when another police office was charged with the same offence.

Following a proactive investigation by the Directorate of Professional Standards, PC Kenneth Potter, 29 (2/3/82) based at Plumstead Police Station, charged with Theft from the MPS, and Receiving Stolen Goods.

PC Ian Scouler, 45 (13/2/66) based at Plumstead Police Station, charged with Theft from the MPS.

Both are currently suspended and are bailed to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 6 February.

The charges relate to searches where it is alleged MPS property was stolen.   Earlier this week the MPS confirmed that S
tephen Bowers (18.08.55), a member of MPS police staff based on Southwark Borough, was charged on Tuesday 24, January 2012 with theft of MPS property and money laundering offences.

It was revealed earlier this yeatthat officers in the Metropolitan Police with criminal convictions have soared with 356 officers and 41 PCSO having been convicted of criminal offences between January 2002 and July 2010.

The crimes committed by law enforcement officers include convictions for assault, robbery and supplying drugs.

Nationally 944 serving officers and police community support officers (PCSOs) have convictions across 43 different police forces.

Six police officers in the Metropolitan Police and two sergeants were convicted of violent and one PC was convicted for violent offences.

Scotland Yard only recently confirmed that it was allowing police officers to quit the force, if they faced misconduct charges.  130 serving police officers quit the Met Police before misconduct hearings, with 43 officers being sacked from the force all together.
