20 million expected to watch the first "Prime Ministerial debate"

The first debate with all the leaders of the main political parties signals a historic first for British politics, with the first American style televised debate held in Manchester.   Will it be "Dave's" night?

The Prime Ministerial debate that is scheduled to be broadcast at 8:30pm on ITV is likely to attract 20 million viewers, in what is being billed as one of the closest general elections in recent memory.

The performances of the three leaders, is likely to have an immediate impact on the standings of their respective parties which are showing in recent opinion polls, Labour holding at 30%, Conservatives at 37% and the Liberal Democrats at 20% with minority parties holding the rest of the votes.
