Londoners who camped outside of the o2 to obtain tickets, and the many thousands who stayed up all night to register for the last concerts to see Michael Jackson are now reeling following from the news that the "King of Pop" has to delay the performances due the stars skin cancer revealed in reports this week
AEG Live the promoters have confirmed that the following dates have been changed:
* 8th July will take place on 13th July 2009 * 10th July will be moved to 1st March 2010 * 12th July will be moved to 3rd March 2010 * 14th July will be moved to 6th March 2010
The President of AEG Randy Phillips in a statement said:
“Kenny and Michael are, at the same time, both creative pioneers and perfectionists. This show has grown in size and scope, thereby, necessitating more lead time for manufacture of the set, programming the content for the massive video elements, and, most importantly, more time for full production and dress rehearsals in the world’s busiest arena, the O2. As much as we agonized over this change in the original schedule, we are sure the fans will understand when they experience the level of entertainment Michael Jackson intends to deliver while also ensuring the safety of the musicians, cast and crew and the crisp execution of the production. It is AEG Live’s sincere hope that those lucky enough to have purchased tickets will have enough time to change their personal schedules and travel plans if they are coming from outside of London. We do not want anyone to miss this once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
Michael Antoniou who purchased 4 tickets and camped outside of the o2 reacted to the news of the dates being rescheduled:
"I am deeply saddened by the news of MJ is not able to keep his promise to his fans, but I hope the promoters and MJ maintain the concerts".
Speculation is now building whether the "King of Pop" will be fit or well enough to maintain the demanding schedule and the live shows. The promoters AEG are adamant that London will see Michael Jackson perform "Organisers are determined that all Michael’s legions of fans attending the opening nights get to experience the same high quality staging that is planned for all of the spectacular shows."
