Last night fashionistas celebrated as McArthurGlen, Europe’s leading Designer Outlet retailer, launched the first Spirit of Fashion pop up shop at Seven Dials in London. In association with the Royal College of Art the exclusive collection showcases the work of three RCA alumni designers, Carolyn Massey, Rachael Barrett and Matthew Miller.
As a supporter of British Fashion and new talent into the industry, McArthurGlen, which now has seven UK centres, will after 12 days in London take the pop up to secret locations in Manchester (29 September) and Glasgow (13 October). For more details, check www.mcarthurglen.com.
The three designers were the winners of the Spirit of Fashion Awards, judged in 2010 by Betty Jackson CBE, Peter Sidell (The Library/RCA visiting menswear professor) Professor Wendy Dagworthy OBE, Ike Rust, [head of menswear at the RCA) Tristan Webber (RCA senior fashion tutors) and Shaeren McKenzie - Marketing Director McArthurGlen. The winners, announced in June 2010, were briefed to reinvent a timeless classic fashion garment in their own ‘handwriting’ creating unique, commercial, designs.
Shaeren McKenzie, Director of McArthurGlen Group, says; “Reinventing an iconic classic is one of the most difficult challenges any designer can face, and we were keen to see how each designer would approach this brief”.
As part of the award, McArthurGlen has provided the designers with 12 months PR support, access to leading industry professionals, and commercial exposure through the manufacture and sale of the Spirit of Fashion Collection, which they have designed exclusively for this project.
