The Mayor has urged Londoners to "pull together" during the recent adverse weather conditions sweeping the South-East. After the worst weather conditions in 18 years, Boris Johnson thanked Londoners for their efforts to get the capital moving and urged them to check before they travel. The Mayor called for anyone who can help elderly neighbours and others who are vulnerable during these exceptional weather conditions to do so. Johnson also ordered Transport for London to suspend the congestion charge for the day. Travelled in by bicycle - pool resources
Johnson, who himself travelled into City Hall on his bicycle said knew how difficult conditions are and praised those working to get tube services running, clear the roads and get a limited bus service running. He said: "It is vital that we all pull together and pool resources to get London through this difficult situation. With further snow due this afternoon I urge everyone to consider how they will be travelling home and check the latest updates from TFL. "The safety of the city and its inhabitants is my overriding concern. I urge Londoners to check on elderly neighbours and others who are vulnerable in these freezing temperatures." "I want to assure everyone that we are doing everything we can to get the capital moving and keep Londoners safe. Travel chaos
Thousands of Londoners are trapped throughout the city as snow storms paralyse the transport network. Most of the bus system is still off the road and the underground is shutting down one line at a time with the - the Circle, Hammersmith & City lines suspended and the majority part suspended. Luton and City Airport are shut and Heathrow is operation at half capacity. Overground services are crippled and trains in and out of hub stations have ground to a halt. Liaising with emergency service - more snow coming
More snow is expected as the Met Office has issued an extreme weather warning for London and the south east of England. Up to 4in of snow has already fallen in some parts of Greater London, with 6cm reported at Heathrow Airport. He added: "These are some of the most challenging weather conditions we have faced in London in two decades. I have been liaising since dawn with the Transport Commissioner, London Fire Brigade and the police."
